Description
The Fungia Coral, also known as Plate Coral or Mushroom Coral, is a striking LPS (Large Polyp Stony) coral famous for its round, flat, or slightly dome-shaped skeleton and vibrant tissue. Unlike most corals, Fungia are free-living, meaning they are not attached to rockwork and can move slightly across the sandbed.
They come in a wide range of colors, including neon green, orange, purple, pink, and rainbow varieties. Their large, fleshy tissue extends during the day, giving them a plump, inflated appearance. At night, Fungia often extend long feeding tentacles to capture food.
Behavior
Aggression: Low. Unlike torches, they don’t have long sweepers, but their tentacles can sting if very close to other corals.
Compatibility: Generally peaceful. Best kept with adequate spacing.
Movement: Can inflate to move itself away from unfavorable conditions.
