Favia Coral Care Guide
Lighting:
Moderate lighting is ideal. Too much direct intensity can cause tissue recession, while too little may fade its vibrant colors. Place Favia in mid-to-lower sections of the tank.
Flow:
Moderate, indirect water flow. Enough movement is needed to keep debris off the surface, but strong currents can irritate its fleshy polyps.
Placement:
Favia corals are semi-aggressive with long sweeper tentacles that extend at night. Allow several inches of space from neighboring corals to avoid stings. Rockwork or sandbed placement both work well.
Feeding:
Photosynthetic but benefits from supplemental feeding. Target feed small meaty foods such as mysis, brine, or coral-specific powdered foods 1–2 times per week for improved growth and coloration.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 75–80°F
Salinity: 1.024–1.026
Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
Difficulty Level:
Easy to Moderate. Favia is hardy and adaptable, making it a reliable coral for both beginners and experienced reef keepers.
